More than 17,000 tons of organic waste are generated every day in Malaysia. Malaysian agricultural ecosystems still tend to stick to traditional waste management, including landfilling and incineration, due to the perception that green alternatives are costly(MIDA, 2025). There are 135 waste landfills in Malaysia, most of which are almost full of waste(Fair Planet, 2024). Organic wastes especially emit huge amounts of methane gas in decomposition and cause soil to be devastated.

At the same time, many Malaysian farms still rely on chemical fertilizers imported from overseas. The imported chemical fertilizers make soil barren, have frequent cost changes based on international situations, and ultimately undermine the economic resilience of farms(World Bank, 2024).

As a result, it is needed in Malaysia to take action for long-term education and awareness-raising strategies for sustainable waste utilization, along with organic waste disposal in an eco-friendly way.

Solution

Global Cerah transforms agricultural waste into high-quality alternative proteins(chemical-free animal feed ingredients) and organic fertilizers based on an IoT automatic system. Local farmers who deliver their agricultural waste to Global Cerah's facilities can get back eco-friendly fertilizers and alternative proteins at a low price, empowering them to contribute to a healthy soil ecosystem, which reduces chemical fertilizers and waste costs.

Agricultural waste collection and high-quality alternative protein and fertilizer production

Temperature-controlled treatment retains up to 70% protein content without the use of chemicals, producing safe and nutrient-rich feed and fertilizer. Real-time monitoring and robotic automation reduce risks of breakdown, cut labor inefficiencies, and lower costs by up to 60%.

Farmer-centric Sustainable Business Model

Local farmers deliver their agricultural waste to Global Cerah's facilities for treatment and upcycling. In return, they receive subsidized fertilizers and feeds priced below market rates, empowering them to adopt environmentally friendly practices while reducing costs

Local Circular Economy System

Cooperating with local governments, Global Cerah operates consulting programs to foster environmental regulation compliance and promote circular economy practices.

Key Products and Services

Agricultural Waste Treatment Service

Global Cerah prevents waste from moving to landfills by providing agricultural waste collection and disposal services for local farmers and plantation owners. This service provides users with feeds and fertilizers at a price with a subsidy, which allows farmers to maintain environmentally friendly waste management.

Chemical-free Animal Feeds and Organic Fertilizers

Global Cerah processes local agricultural wastes, such as banana, beans, and coconut peels, and markets eco-friendly feeds and fertilizers.

IoT-Integrated Waste Management System Licensing

Global Cerah supplies a license for an IoT-enabled waste valorisation system with its expansion overseas, including the Philippines and Taiwan.

Changes over the Past 2 Years

Global Cerah contributes to mitigating CO₂ emissions and promoting local job creation

by improving waste processing and protein conversion efficiency.

Global Cerah becomes a core player in sustainable bio-resource management

based on continuous R&D empowerment and global partnerships.

Key Networks and Activities

Domestic/International Circular Economy Networks and Programs

As a speaker at international forums and programs, Willie shares cases and models of circular economy solutions, establishing a global network with the base of solution expansion in other countries and institutions.

Awards and International Recognition

Global Cerah has received credits for its environmental and social impacts. As a result, Global Cerah got an award for 'FAO Global Technical Recognition Award(2025)', 'World Summit Award Environment and Green Energy Champion(2024)', etc.

Future Goals

Empowering 100K Farmers and Local Communities

Global Cerah partners with government agencies, NGOs, and development organizations to align efforts with national sustainability goals. Global Cerah establishes regional hubs in Thailand and Vietnam through local partnerships and joint ventures.

❷

Extending Waste Treatment Services to Include Food Waste from F&B, Hospitality, and Household Sectors

Global Cerah creates a Southeast Asia Circular Economy Network, linking countries through knowledge exchange and shared waste valorization infrastructure. Partnering with F&B companies, hospitality chains, and municipalities to collect and process food waste, Global Cerah builds localized treatment facilities to handle urban organic waste efficiently.

Deploying a Comprehensive ERP System for Real-Time Operations and Traceability

Global Cerah collaborates with ERP solution providers to customize platforms for waste collection, production tracking, and quality assurance. Training staff and regional partners to use the system effectively for data-driven decision-making, Global Cerah introduces blockchain-based traceability tools to ensure transparency, compliance, and trust across the value chain.

Interview
Fellow Willie

The Asia Beautiful Fellow Program taught me that a people-centric business is more important than others. 2 years ago, I used to focus on numeric figures and achievement when I had just become an Asia Beautiful Fellow.

Maybe that is because I have a background in accounting and finance. However, by communicating with other fellows, I can learn diverse viewpoints on social impact. Especially, I realized that the business dealing with social impact, like Global Cerah, cannot explain everything just with figures. Not to mention numbers, people-focused access is crucial in solving problems, even in the business sector.

Thanks to these learnings, I empower myself as a leader looking at people, including my team members, stakeholders, and cooperating farmers.

People with fellow

Willie always has an open mind to communicate with external stakeholders and introduce Global Cerah. He always seeks ways to collaborate with corporations overseas.

Willie has interacted with other fellows from ASEAN countries through the Asia Beautiful Fellow Program. Through this global partnership network, we are convinced of the deeper potential for Global Cerah. Now, Global Cerah has cooperated with the Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan, also sponsored by a German institution.

I can feel that Global Cerah is connecting with many wider business partners. When Willie uploads posts on LinkedIn after international meetings or workshops, we can see the feedback from the whole world. With this network, Global Cerah will spread its impact to the international stage and empower its own business competitiveness.

Willie is always ready to adopt new ideas, listening to others rather than sticking to his standard. At the beginning of Global Cerah, Willie was absorbed in inventing technology to transition alternative proteins into feeds. But considering the environmental issues that Malaysia and Global Cerah face, there was feedback to place emphasis on agricultural waste. Agricultural waste harms the climate, but farmers are still not very handy with the waste.

Therefore, out of other alternative proteins, such as food waste, Willie revised his business model for creating alternative proteins from agricultural waste. So, he finally supported farmers by building the circular economy. He supports farmers with a system that subsidizes the feed grinder, pays for agricultural waste, and returns the feed to the farmers through the collection and production process. With his own strategy, Willie demonstrated that the circular economy can make cooperative relations with farmers.
